Certificates Explained |
Diamond quality is certified by Independent gemmological laboratories. The diamond's
certificate sets out the diamond's carat (size), color, clarity and cut, known as
the 4C's.
A certificate very accurately describes a loose diamond in terms of its 4C’s. Diamond
certificates are essential for all diamonds over 0.30 carats in weight. The diamond
certificate tells you the diamond's exact measurements and weight, as well as the
details of its cut and quality. It precisely points out all the individual characteristics
of the stone.
Only by having this information can you determine the value of the diamond and compare
one diamond with another. A diamond certificate is not a valuation but all diamonds
are valued on the basis of their certificate.
While every diamond is unique two diamonds with the same 4C’s can be largely treated
as the same in terms of value. The most important fact is that without an independent
diamond certificate it is impossible to accurately determine a diamonds value.
