Choose Your Diamond Shape

Most of our designs suit many diamond or gemstone shapes. If you have seen a design you like, however are in love with a particular cut of diamond simply change one for the other. While not every diamond or gemstone shapes suit each design, all of our designs suit at least two different shapes.

Each cut of diamond or gemstone has it’ own unique advantages and disadvantages. We’ve prepared a guide to diamond shapes, which you can read here.

Select Your Claw Style

You have the choice between a wide selection of claw styles when designing your jewellery with Guthrie’s. Pictured is a ring featuring double claws and single claws, however these are just a few of many you have to choose from.

Exquisite diamonds and gemstones that are set in a ring demand the perfect setting that is both visually pleasing and does not detract from the beauty of the stones.  These claws also need to be crafted in a way that protects the stone, securing it in the setting. A stone shape and size can influence the style of claw you decide on.

Adjust the Setting Height

A beautiful piece of fine jewellery will have the key elements of design in perfect proportion.  Crucial to the visual outcome of a ring is setting height. A taller setting gives a vintage look and accentuates diamond size, a lower setting has an understated class and a more timeless look.

The depth and size of stone will greatly influence setting height. In addition to this, everyday wearability of a ring is key. If a diamond or gemstone is set too low, you do not appreciate the beauty of the cut. If the stone is set too high, you will be prone to knocking the gem or diamond.

Select Your Band Profile

The band profile of a ring is a personal choice when it comes to the look.  When designing your ring, take into consideration what shape diamond is being used. Pear, marquise or oval cut diamonds have a feminine cut with soft curves.  A rounded profile enhances these stone shapes.

Whereas a princess, radiant or emerald cut stones have an architectural aspect to them, with their straight lines and perfect corners.  We often use a sharp edge profile in keeping with the clean precise lines of these gemstones, the choice is entirely yours.

Select Your Precious Metal

Precious metal choice is a very personal preference, we work in both gold and of course platinum. Both metals have their unique advantages. In saying that, both metal types give exceptional strength, wear and tear but platinum is sometimes preferred over white gold for its durability and consistent colour. Rose gold with its unique “rosy” hue delivers a point of difference and works beautifully in combination with platinum, as a highlight metal.
