Purple Sapphire Engagement Ring

Engagement
Sapphire

A purple sapphire engagement ring, set in a platinum diamond band. This design, featuring a pear cut sapphire is elegant yet striking, with a unique point of difference. The Purple Sapphire gemstone has been highly prized among collectors for its stunning natural colour. Its unique purple hue can range from pink to violet.

Sapphires are among the most durable naturally occurring elements in the world. Gemstones are rated on their ability to withstand scratching based on a system called the Mohs Scale of Hardness, and Sapphires score a 9 out of 10.

Purple Sapphires are sometimes confused with Amethysts; a variety of quartz and registers a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Sapphires are very durable to take the daily knocks of life, the only material harder is diamond.

In terms of brilliance and sparkle, once again the Sapphire comes well ahead of an Amethyst, and put a Sapphire next to one another, you’ll see that a Sapphire has much more sparkle and clarity.

Purple/violet Sapphires are similar in color to pink Sapphires, but darker and always with purple  or violet as the dominant colour. These Sapphires appear more blue than pink, they range from medium purple, to dark reddish purple, to violet purple with weak to vivid colour saturation.
